Tuberculosis patient Andrew Speaker has put (unwittingly he claims) the health of his wife, Sarah Speaker, strangers, family, and commercial jet passengers at risk. Speaker traveled to Europe for his wedding to Sarah and honeymoon knowing that he had a rare strain of TB known as XDR-TB. Speaker claims that his doctors advised him not to travel but acted as if the warnings were just bureaucratic obligations, assuring him and Sarah that he was not contagious. Sarah Speaker has just married Andrew, a lawyer in Georgia, and is herself a third-year law student. Sarah’s father, ironically, studies TB with the CDC. Partly thanks to him, in addition to brains, Andrew Speaker’s wife happens to be blonde and beautiful. We’ll be looking for more Sarah Speaker in the news as this story develops.
